Michael McGimpsey condemns knifepoint robbery

South Belfast Ulster Unionist Assembly Member Michael McGimpsey has condemned a knifepoint robbery at a supermarket on the Lisburn Road on Monday evening. The attacker, who was described as wearing a white hooded top and scarf covering his face, demanded that staff hand over cash.

Speaking this morning Michael McGimpsey said;

“I utterly condemn this attack. Staff at the supermarket were shaken by the experience and it is unacceptable that petty individuals bring such fear into people’s lives trying to go about their daily business.”

“There is no place for violence in our society; people should feel safe to go about their daily lives without the fear of such violent demands.”

“I would urge anyone with information about this incident to contact the police on 0845 600 8000.”
