The Ulster Unionist Assembly Member for South Belfast, Michael McGimpsey MLA has condemned those responsible for the security alert on the Westlink this morning. The busy route into the City Centre was sealed off between Divis Street and Stockmans Lane as Army technical officers examined a car. The car has been removed for further examination and the Westlink was re-opened after the rush hour just before 10.00 am.
Speaking about the incident, Michael McGimpsey commented;
“This morning’s incident caused chaos to Monday morning traffic and I condemn this mindless act. It is deeply irresponsible of those who placed the car on the motorway causing potential danger and inconvenience to a great number of people.”
“Those responsible must consider their actions and the danger they could have caused to a large number of people. The public are tired of acts of terrorism carried out by dissident groups.”
“Those who left this device must realise that politics has moved on and the general public want a peaceful future.”
