Ulster Unionist Assembly Member for South Belfast, Michael McGimpsey has spoken of his delight at attending the official opening of Donegall Pass Youth Club this evening.
The Youth Club that is now housed in the newly refurnished Porters Memorial Assembly Hall received an investment of almost £200,000 from BELB following many years of campaigning by the Assembly Member alongside the local community.
In a statement Mr. McGimpsey said, “I am delighted to finally see this youth in place and being used by the young people of Donegall Pass. For many years I, alongside the local community, lobbied BELB and the Department of Education for a youth club in the area and we are overjoyed to finally see all those years of work come to fruition.”
“It was very heartening this evening to see so many young people, their parents, volunteers and members of the community turning out to support the youth club. It is a tribute to BELB and the center staff that the youth club is already opening extra evenings for the young people and I trust it will only go from strength to strength.”
In conclusion Mr. McGimpsey said, “While this is a welcome start for the young people of Donegall Pass I look forward to future investment in the area to ensure our young people are given the very best start they possibly can.”
