Ulster Unionist Assembly Member for South Belfast Michael McGimpsey has welcomed today’s official opening of the new Taughmonagh Primary School building.
Speaking after the ceremony which was completed by Dame Mary Peters OBE the South Belfast Assembly Member said, “I am delighted to be able to join Dame Mary Peters, the staff, pupils, parents and community from Taughmonagh to celebrate the fantastic new school building.
“I campaigned for many years alongside the school and local community for this building having seen first-hand the poor conditions the staff and pupils were being forced to endure in an outdated building and temporary classrooms. Despite these poor conditions the Headmistress and staff provided a first class education to the children of Taughmonagh and I am glad they now have the facilities to match.”
In conclusion Mr McGimpsey said, “I would like to pay tribute to Belfast Education and Library Board and all those who campaigned for this investment. Our children are our most precious asset and they deserve the very best start in life we can offer them. This new school building with its dedicated staff will go some way to providing that very important start for the young people of Taughmonagh for many years to come.”
