McGimpsey condemns the actions of those who left a pipe bomb device on the Malone Road in South Belfast

Ulster Unionist Assembly Member for South Belfast Michael McGimpsey has condemned the actions of those who left a pipe bomb device in the Malone Road area of South Belfast yesterday.

Army bomb disposal officers had to carry out a controlled explosion on the device that forced the Malone Road to be closed from Adelaide Park to Cranmore Park for some time yesterday.

In a statement Mr McGimpsey said, “I utterly condemn the actions of those who left this device on the Malone Road in South Belfast. This is a residential area with many young families and children walking past to get to and from local schools. If the device had exploded it could easily have caused death or injury to innocent bystanders.”

“I would like to pay tribute to the professionalism and bravery of the army personnel who dealt with the pipe bomb.”

In conclusion Mr McGimpsey said, “The actions of the individuals who left this device were nothing short of reckless and could have caused serious injury or death. These people have no place in our modern society.”
