Ulster Unionist Assembly Member for South Belfast Michael McGimpsey was delighted to attend the annual cross-community gift exchange between local school children on the Broadway Roundabout.
The event which sees school children from both communities exchange Christmas gifts at the interface on the Broadway Roundabout is held annually by The South and West Action team to both celebrate the cross-community work of the previous year and to encourage the continuation of the work in the year to come.
In a statement Mr McGimpsey said, “I was delighted to be invited and attend. It is always a pleasure to meet young people and community workers from both sides of the religious divide whose cross-community work is invaluable to the communities they represent.”
“We must recognise the tremendous work of the community volunteers. They have worked endlessly through a difficult year for cross-community relations that have seen the return of many barriers between communities.”
In conclusion, Mr McGimpsey said, “We must continue to encourage our young people to positively engage in cross-community development if we are to ensure a bright future for the next generation.”
