South Belfast Ulster Unionist MLA Michael McGimpsey has called for immediate action by the Water Service and the Department for Regional Development to deal with this evenings flooding in South Belfast.
Mr McGimpsey’s comments come after flooding in a number of locations across South Belfast including the Lisburn Road and Sicily Park.
In a statement Mr McGimpsey said “I am very concerned that yet again South Belfast residents find their homes flooded with water and raw sewerage. Despite the various remedial works completed by the Water Service in South Belfast the problem persists.”
“I have been in contact with the Minister for Regional Development and Water Service this evening and am hoping to facilitate a site meeting with them as a matter of urgency.”
In conclusion Mr McGimpsey said,”Residents can no longer be allowed to live in constant fear that their homes will be flooded every time it rains. The Department for Regional Development and Water Service must ensure an immediate start to long talked about works to update the drainage network in the Upper Lisburn Road area. Only the completion of these major works will give residents some peace of mind.”
